The goal of this Team Building is to design and build a functional boat that can support one or more team members and navigate in water. To achieve this, you will be divided into teams and provided with all the necessary materials: cardboard, tape, and other tools to build your boats.
Carton Boat is an engineering team building activity where teams of approximately 8 people design and build a functioning boat from cardboard and tape, then compete in an on-water regatta. The activity includes three phases: briefing with constraints and material distribution (15-20 min), boat construction with a base diagram and free customization (60-90 min), and a final regatta on sea, lake, or pool with awards for speed, water resistance, and design (30-45 min). Total duration: 2-3 hours (ideal: 2.5 hours). Requires a body of water for the race, 10 sqm per team for construction, sound system, and microphone. All materials — corrugated cardboard, tape, cutters, markers, diagrams — are provided by our staff.
Carton Boat develops competencies with scores of Mental 7/10, Physical 6/10, Fun 9/10, and Training 6/10. Key skills developed include: engineering problem solving (building a floating boat from fragile materials demands creative solutions to real constraints), planning and time management (balancing thorough design with execution speed), role allocation (designers, builders, decorators, and pilot — each member naturally finds their role), risk management (every construction choice is a trade-off between structure and performance). Ideal for summer events, beach parties, and corporate incentives. Our facilitators can include a debriefing connecting the construction experience to workplace project management.
